SiFu David Tsan aka ‘Dawud’ has been training Wing Chun under the tutelage of SiFu Garry McKenzie since 2010 and has completed all four gradings under The Wing Chun School system. In 2013, Sifu Garry granted him the permission to teach and Dawud opened his first school in Peckham. Since then, he has become heavily involved in teaching Wing Chun and is currently managing schools, clubs, and private sessions all around London. Dawud currently operates in the borough of Southwark, Lambeth, Chelsea, Camden, Ilford, and Hackney.

In 2015, Sifu McKenzie promoted Dawud to ‘Dai SiHing’ (Senior Kung fu brother) at the children’s classes in Hackney HQ. Dawud has taken part in various seminars and demonstrations associated with TWCS, including UK Wing Chun gathering, Wan Kam Leung London Seminar, Festival Asia and TWCS 25th Anniversary.

In November 2015, Dawud was fortunate enough to be part of the group visit to Hong Kong and Foshan China. He visited various Wing Chun Schools across the country and took part in demonstrations and seminars with TWCS. He had the privilege to meet SiGung Ip Ching and other Wing Chun SiFus such as Chau Lin Fat, Kong Chi Keung, Buick Yip, Hawkins Cheung, Sam Lau, John Wong and many others.

I first began training Wing Chun as a teenager. Though I was attracted to the logic and directness of the system I was unable to maintain my training alongside my academic studies.

I later returned to Wing Chun and have trained under SiFu Alan within the Wing Chun school for over 7 years, and completed the 3rd grading. I have been captivated by the practicality and realism of Wing Chun as taught by the Wing Chun School and assist at the Clapham branch with adults and also now with SiFu Dawud’s children’s classes in Peckham.

Through my Wing Chun training I have gained a far deeper understanding of myself and what I am capable of. The directness and efficiency of the system have helped me to develop not only within the martial arts but as a person as well.

Having seen the positive impact Wing Chun has made for myself it is a pleasure to assist a skilled SiFu in teaching children. I feel fortunate to be able to help in passing on this art and the associated wisdom to young people and am sure the skills, discipline and diligence they learn will have a genuinely beneficial impact on them.

As a young boy growing up watching martial movies, I was aspired to Wing Chun by watching Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and other martial artists.

Later on I was introduced to Sifu Simon Lau by a work colleague.  I trained with him for a while and due to managerial commitments at work, I had to stop but did not lose the love for Wing Chun.

Many years later, around in 2011, I was introduced to Sifu Gary Mckenzie by my close friend Sifu Dawud Tsan.  Sifu Gary Mckenzie accepted me as a student and I started my training under him at The Wing Chun School headquarters at Hackney.  I am now on the Instructors apprenticeship program and  I assist at The Wing Chun School Hackney, Ilford and Peckham branch as an Assistant Instructor.
